Trip To Custer Institute Southold

ARRL Centennial ConventionLast year (L to R)Tony KB2HRB, Steve W2SFK, Bob NB2G and John WA2KSM and I (Gary KE2YK) attended the ARRL Centennial Convention in Hartford CT. During the 3 day event, we had the pleasure of meeting Jim Baker W2NSF and Jay Buscemi NY2NY of the Peconic Amateur Radio Club.

Since meeting with Jim and Jay, John KSM and I have been tossing around the idea of attending a PARC meeting and finding out more about the PARC radio Club.

I noticed that the PARC Web site listed a  Wednesday open house at the Custer Institute Custer Institute and Observatorywhere PARC has their radio station.

My XYL and I took advantage of the awesome weather and took an early afternoon drive out to Southold and visited the Custer Institute and Observatory.

Unfortunately, we arrived a bit late. The open house hours were from 10 to 2 and we arrived around 1:45. My interest was to meet someone from the radio club and swap business cards. peconic amateur radio clubJay NY2NY happened to be there and we had a pleasant conversation and we got the quick tour of the radio station. Jay had a 2 PM appointment so the visit ended quickly but Jay said he would add me to the PARC email list.

I plan to attend the November meeting at the Custer Institute. The Club is having a guest speaker in from Shelter Island.
